Wildlife, Biodiversity and 'Natural' Environment Portfolio

Richard Benyon MP is the DEFRA minister responsible for the natural environment which includes wildlife and biodiversity. He has a family estate of 20, 000 acres and rakes in quite a bit of EU subsidy money. He likes shooting and his gamekeepers on the estate make sure that only the wildlife that doesn't pose a threat to the game birds is given an easy time. It's a fair bet that between him and Poul Christensen at Unnatural England they make sure we don't get a more natural looking upland to enjoy with free roaming wildlife. Particularly as Benyon also has a grouse moor in Inverness-shire of many thousands of acres. So the view is entrenched that what's good for shooters is what's good for our landscape. Tough that it looks so boring.
