Another Farce

One wonders and one wonders.

Where do they find these people? And is our generation responsible for the desperately poor educational standard  of those making decisions so mindlessly?

The wildlife trust managers are so lacking any idea of what they should be doing that it becomes a pointless exercise to criticise them. Deskbound at their HQ and out of their depth when they emerge onto the land for which they are responsible they take refuge in plastering every gateway with notices.

There is now a new one on this gate making a total of 7 equalling that at the car park. Some of these are repeated at other gates. Should our reaction be annoyance or compassion?

One of these is about sheep worrying by dogs. I know this happens but I've always been sceptical about the way the farming industry plays it up especially when the big scandal round here in recent years has been about abuse of sheep by farmers.

I see that this has come by courtesy of the National Sheep association or N$A and National Farmers Union or N£U representing many of the most subsidy-dependent but well-heeled members of our establishment.

Many things annoy me about this and I would be obliged if someone would do what's necessary. While conceding that it's a serious matter to allow your dog to chase sheep, people need to be reminded that it is a serious affront to a nature reserve to bring sheep onto the land and eat up all the wildflowers pushing the processed stuff out the other end. This land is primarily for public recreation and it's also a nature reserve. It is not essentially farmland and that's where all the trouble starts. There are plenty of farms where people walk on rights of way and woe betide them if their dog misbehaves. But this is not like that. It's public land.
