I feel decidely intemperate when I look at this kind of thing. I've lost count of the times SWT have misguidedly interferened with this once quiet and secluded area. The track here used to be narrow and informal. It has been widened now at least three times in a few years by heavy vehicles and it now seems to be settling down permanently as something the width of a motorway.
None of the work being done now justifies the heavy equipment being used. In fact it would probably be more successful if it was done by men with shovels, slowly and steadily and a bit at a time. The stretch of track in the picture has been surfaced at public expense and then churned up by people who do not care about the mess created. And it's no use saying it will recover in time. It won't, and anyway they won't give it a chance. And it's all to make sure they can always make a case for more work being done. The area around the bench has suffered year on year from their amateurish attempts to repair these tracks. It's now time for them to go away and leave it all alone. If they don't see what's wrong with this no wonder they do nothing about motor bikes.
