Growing Fast...

The largest of the group of stags this morning was sporting impressive antlers. Perhaps he is the owner of the shed antler I found in early May (A Heavy Dew). The striking aspect of this is the speed with which the new ones grow.

I found the antler just a month ago. Even if it had been on the ground for a fortnight before I saw it this would leave only 6 weeks for the new antlers to get to this size. I could not decide what the grey flecks are on the stag's handsome new coat. It's possibly the remains of the velvet covering of the antlers which comes off usually when rubbed against a tree.

The pleasure at seeing the deer again is increased by the continued absence of SWT's cattle - allowing the sense of wildness to dominate.
