"Ahhh now you don't want to be puttin' them runner beans out yet awhile," may be good advice to the next door neighbour, but nature itself is not beyond making impetuous mistakes. Bracken shoots tempted by warmth in early April sent up shoots ridiculously early and 'got hammered' by frost a few nights ago.
The stags by contrast have cautiously kept their warm winter pullovers through April and even now are holding onto them until they're nearly threadbare. A week or two more of the present warmer temperatures and they will be sporting a sleek and slender look and we will see why they are called red deer.
