A Job To Do


Back come the sheep.
"Some of us have work to do you know. You may like the pasture land without sheep but if we didn't put sheep on the land there would be the wrong sort of thing growing on it like wild flowers. This is a managed landscape and it has to stay like that for ever. The right stuff for this land is grass and thistles. After all what use are harebells and vetch and orchids to anyone? Much better eaten up before they get a hold. We're part of the working landscape. Yes I know some weirdos think it's prettier with flowers but we all know don't we that they're just softies - probably southern softies if I know anything. Our job is to make sure the sheep bite off all this undesirable natural stuff and spread their waste generously over the whole area. Even better when we bring on the cattle with their lovely cowpats. If they weren't here it would soon get to be too attractive for human visitors and we can't have that. Anyway just imagine. Without farm grazing it might start to look like this:
