Suspicion

Competition for the bird food a the Old Wall usually means that certain regulars get there first. Sometimes a less regular customer arrives and can provoke indignation or suspicion.

These occasional visitors may be a crow, a pheasant or a squirrel. We always hope to see a lizard on a sunny morning but none has obliged for a long time.

Also living in the Old Wall itself are voles and shrews. A slight movement observed in the cavities can mean either may shortly appear. A few days ago it was a vole. This morning it was the shrew's turn.
