Wanderers

It can be easier to get a sight of the deer in the months between October and May. In summer hinds may be busy with young, keeping mostly to areas of woodland and deep bracken. Around sunrise an occasional expedition may be ventured as yesterday.

Stags can develop a wanderlust in summer, going round in small groups. This is when they may be seen in and around farmland and when keen gardeners fear a nightime visit to their rosebeds. Houndkirk Moor has not to my knowledge been a great attraction for deer but I've now seen stags there several times over a few months. They have each time been near to one of the few parts of Houndkirk where there are trees. They were there again this morning before 6 am.
