I've not come across any young deer calves on Blacka in recent months but there's no shortage of young animals and birds around. Many of the older breeding-age birds are in a post-parenting slump just now with our great tit friend the worst example. This young robin though looks confident and well turned-out.
While this young crow needs a few sessions at finishing school.
There were young deer this morning after a long absence, but they're one and two year olds who don't for the moment want to mix with the grown-ups further off.
As the weather changes to something cooler we may see more of the deer on Blacka. The food supply must be more interesting than on the higher slopes. That may be tempting even for those who will go a long way to avoid midges.
