The Elusive and the Relaxed

Off into the woods at the first hint that it might be spotted, the doe showed only its white rear portion to the camera.

Red deer hinds can hardly be called confident, but this morning were relaxing in the dry bracken straw. Getting this close was not easy even so; trousers will need washing.

Still it's worth the effort approaching so near. You can see how the winter fluffy coat is slowly falling away explaining why so often they're to be seen tugging away at their backs and sides.

The young male is with them. What will those small velvets have become by the end of the year?
