Under the Beeches

It's often said that nothing grows under Beech due to the thick carpet of leaves found there. That's not quite true. Bluebell work hard to come through the leaves, their own being sharp pointed. Speared Beech leaves are all over the ground here.

There are others coming through the leaves some spiky and others not.

Wood Sorrel too grows under these Beeches but flowers are several weeks later than in some years.

Birch is also well behind as if it fears another cold spell.

2011 was well-greened by mid April.
