Activism

We are the public and we should be told what's going on. They work for us. Should our public servants be holding things back from us?

A local group, increasingly influential, argues for better and more honest politics (with a small p). It is composed of people from all political parties and from none. It is called Sheffield for Democracy and it campaigns amongst other things for more accountability transparency and public scrutiny in both national and local government. I am a member.

Some people don't like activism. For them it's a dirty word. Stalin would have agreed as would others who have something to hide.

Following my quest for transparency I've sent a Freedom of Information request in to Sheffield City Council. This is it:

Discussions have been held between the National Trust and Sheffield City Council officers on the subject of the possible management and leasing of Sheffield's public land to the trust. Please list all contacts that relate to this. Please also include contacts with other N.G.O.s and other third sector organisations interested in such management and leasing arrangements.
The list should include meetings, letters, emails and phone calls with named officers, plus a summary of content.
Please contact me if this request needs clarification.

Progress on this request can be followed here.
