Not so much "here today, gone tomorrow", as "here yesterday, gone today."
The solitary orchid mentioned in this post, which was there yesterday, has now gone! There is no trace of it. Why?
Earlier I had first been looking at a grassy and brambly bank near the gate to see whether there were any signs of orchids and other flowers. Interesting things had been here in previous years before cattle cattle were introduced. But no longer. No signs.
It's usually possible to see where the cows have been, even in warmer and drier conditions. There was one smallish cowpat quite close to where yesterday's orchid had been but it could have been something (or someone?) else.
