Deer are timid creatures who don't like humans, although in park herds you can get pretty close to them. When we first started seeing the red deer on Blacka some 5 years ago their wildness was apparent. They moved off at the slightest provocation. Perhaps it was inevitable that they would see us as less threatening as time went on and when near trees they have much more confidence despite always watching us closely. But this morning the four seen were definitely approaching us. It may have something to do with a more erratic style of behaviour out in the open. Or maybe our determination to stay more at a distance from them has made them bolder.
