Just over the wall in the shady area approaching the Strawberry Lee Lane car park you can see this huge bracket fungus.
After a fairly long dry spell the roots spreading over the paths stand out like the back of an old man's hand.
The whitebeam exposed on Blacka Hill is not the only one around. The one below may have solved the problem of avoiding herbivores by growing out of the bank of the stream where it's not so accessible. That could cause other problems when the stream is in flood.
And the flowering cherry on the canons path is making sure that there are many more to keep it company.
